About the Program

The Medical Assistant program at Compass Career College provides students with an introduction to the knowledge and practical skills often used in medical offices, clinics, and other healthcare environments. This program is designed to combine classroom instruction with hands-on learning experiences that reflect the workflow of modern healthcare settings.

Students are introduced to a variety of administrative and clinical concepts commonly associated with medical assisting. Instruction focuses on developing professional communication, organization, and patient-centered practices that are important in healthcare environments.

At Compass Career College, we believe career training should be interactive, practical, and supportive. Our instructors bring industry experience into the classroom and work closely with students to guide them through each stage of the program.

Program Objectives

This program is designed to prepare students for a variety of entry-level positions in the healthcare field. Students complete coursework in direct patient care, phlebotomy, clinical procedures, pharmacology, medical office operations, and electronic health records.

As part of the Medical Assistant curriculum, students complete the Nurse Aide Training coursework, providing a foundation in direct patient care and creating the opportunity to earn an embedded Nurse Aide Training credential upon successful completion of applicable coursework and regulatory requirements.

Graduates of the Medical Assistant program are prepared for entry-level employment in a variety of healthcare settings. Potential employment opportunities may include Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, Medical Office Specialist, Medical Receptionist, Patient Care Coordinator, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, Nurse Aide, Home Health Aide, and other related healthcare support positions, subject to employer requirements and applicable certification or credentialing standards.

Hands-On Medical Assistant Training

Hands-on learning is a key part of the Medical Assistant program experience. Students practice skills in a supervised learning environment designed to simulate real-world healthcare settings. Through guided instruction, students become familiar with equipment, procedures, and day-to-day responsibilities commonly associated with medical assisting.

Small class sizes help create an environment where students can receive individual attention and personalized instruction as they develop their skills.

 Training

What You'll Learn

Our Medical Assistant curriculum combines clinical and administrative training so students graduate ready for entry-level roles across a range of healthcare settings. The program is all-encompassing, with CNA training, phlebotomy, EKG, and CPR built into one course of study. Our students all learn:

Nurse Aide (CNA) Training

Foundational nursing skills, vital signs, and direct patient care. Students who complete this portion qualify as a Certified Nurse Aide even if they don't finish the full program.

Phlebotomy

Blood draw technique, specimen handling, and lab procedures (Phlebotomy I & II).

EKG & Clinical Procedures

Basic diagnostic and clinical procedures performed under physician order/supervision.

CPR Certification

American Heart Association-approved CPR for Healthcare Providers, offered on-site.

Pharmacology

Basic drug classifications, usage, and medication administration under physician supervision.

Medical Office Administration

Scheduling, patient records, filing, and computer/office equipment use.

MA Healthcare Foundations

Medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and professional workplace conduct.

MA Externship

200-hour supervised clinical externship to apply skills in a real medical office setting.

What You Need to Apply

Compass Career College strives to create an accessible and supportive learning environment for individuals interested in vocational and healthcare training. The Medical Assistant program uses open acceptance admissions, so there are no entrance exams or placement tests. Our admissions team can walk you through the full list of documents needed to enroll.

Admission Requirements May Include

  • High school diploma, transcript, or high school equivalency
  • State-required criminal background screening
  • TB skin test and current immunization records
  • Completed enrollment application and orientation

Certifications & Career Preparation

Program Certification

Our Medical Assistant training is designed to provide a quality education with a variety of learning opportunities that prepare students for employment in healthcare settings.

EKG instruction is included within the Nursing III (NSG 310) course, and graduates are eligible to sit for the Nationally Registered Certified EKG Technician exam upon completion of the program.

The program includes preparation for additional industry-related certification exams. Eligibility requirements for certification exams are determined by the respective certifying organizations.

Certifications may include:

  1. BLS Provider (CPR) – American Heart Association
  2. Nurse Aide Competency Exam (CNA) – Prometric
  3. Nationally Registered Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NRCPT) – National Association of Health Professionals
  4. Nationally Registered Certified EKG Technician (NRCEKG) – National Association of Health Professionals
  5. Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association of Health Professionals

Completion of the program does not guarantee certification or employment outcomes.
